« Ce n’est pas le froid qui peu à peu m’a glaçé, mais la sensation de rétrécir dans le paysage, de n’être qu’un fil de fer suspendu à quelques centimètres du sol, de disparaître dans l’infinitésimal. J’ai repensé à Guayaquil. Je pesais alors le même poids, pourtant je me sentais adipeux, mon corps s’enflait par le milieu jusqu’à se fondre dans la moiteur. Les pores de ma peau aspiraient les particules d’humidité et les bruits de l’Equateur. Je disparaissais dans le bitume graisseux… ».

“Canada, a trip to trapper’s land”

En 1987/88, Daniel Anizon received the « Medicis hors les murs » award from the french government. He spent 6 winter months in Canada photographing trappers, from Quebec to Alberta and Northwest Territories.
He describes his feeling of the cold :
« It was not the cold itself which step by step froze me, but the strange feeling of shrinking in the landscape. My body was like a thin steel wire hanging a few inches above the ground, while my frozen feet seemed to separate from the rest of my body and stick to the surface of the frozen lake.
I don’t know why, this reminded me of Guayaquil, Ecuador, where I had been 14 years before. At that time, I weighed exactly the same, nevertheless I felt almost obese, my body seemed to inflate in the middle and melt completely in the tropical heat. My sweat pores were absorbing the ecuadorian moisture and noises. My body was like disappearing into the visquous asphalt… ».
